Short film from a week on the road with Skinny Tyres, following their ‘Island Hopper’ guided cycle tour through Mull, Skye, Uist, and Barra. It was so windy at the start of the week I wasn’t sure we’d get any aerial footage — but the drone held its own, and we managed to capture some stunning shots.

Scot, who runs Skinny Tyres, was leading the trip. He’s put together an incredible route showcasing the very best of cycling on Scotland’s west coast. Strategic ferry hops linked the dramatic cliffs of Mull to Ardnamurchan — the westernmost part of the mainland — then on to Skye and Glenelg. From there, we headed to the far north-west of Skye for a loop around the Quiraing before catching another ferry to North Uist. The ride continued south across the causeways of Benbecula, South Uist, and Eriskay. The penultimate ferry took us to Barra, finishing on the white sands of Vatersay.

Throughout, Scot was never far away in the Skinny Tyres van, offering snacks, mechanical help, and moral support. I’ve not been on a supported cycle tour but I can see the appeal — every ferry, hotel, lunch stop, and evening meal taken care of, so you can focus on the ride and the incredible places you’re riding through.
